Everybody plans the install. Nobody plans the takedown
The whole discussion points at one day in November. Which makes sense, because that is the visible part. But the season ends, and then there is a second job nobody scheduled. The people who asked the question up front have a much better January than the people who did not.Which is a shame, because January is where the difference between companies actually shows. Anybody can put a display up. The question is what the arrangement looks like when the season is over. That question belongs in the first conversation, not after the season ends.
Doing it yourself, honestly
The takedown is worse. Cold, no enthusiasm, and a mess at the end. Whatever goes into that box is in worse shape next season.
How it should work instead
Takedown belongs in the original agreement. When the season ends, the same company returns and takes it all down. The lights get labeled, packed and kept in storage until next year, so they come back out ready. You never handle any of it.
The case for off site storage
Off site storage solves three problems at once. Your attic gets its space back, which is worth something in most houses. Condition is preserved, which is most of why strands fail. And because they are catalogued to your property, next season looks like this season.
The permanent alternative sidesteps all of it
The other option makes January irrelevant. Permanent lighting does not have a takedown. It costs more up front and it makes sense for households that never skip a season. But if the takedown conversation is what is bothering you, it is a fair question to raise.
What happens if something goes dark on the twentieth
A display runs for a month or

What matters is the response. Service during the season belongs on the quote, and the quote should say which. Ask before you book, not on the twenty second of December.
What next season looks like
The first season takes real work. After that, everything is on record. Booking the second year is a short conversation. If you want it expanded or trimmed back, that is a conversation, not a redesign.
What to settle in writing
